Buzz Buzz

How does time go by so fast? It’s already Sunday afternoon! Yesterday went by in a blur…and not because I had some margaritas. I have to say I sometimes enjoy time going by fast. It means I am busy and am surrounded by lots of things to do. For this lady, that typically means things to do with friends or activities I thoroughly enjoy working on. God has blessed me by filling my life with things I am passionate about. Being a mother & wife, helping students, leading a Sunday class, blogging, involving myself in health & fitness, spending time with friends, and more. So being busy just reminds me how full my life is. He is amazing and never ceases to meet our needs and, on top of that, He abundantly gives joy that overflows. Can you tell I’m high on life today? That doesn’t have to do with the margaritas either. 😉

This weekend wasn’t anything too special. We didn’t have any set plans since we were going to be out of town. Friday we just stayed in with dinner and some relaxation together. We even hit the sack by 9:00. Party hearty!

Saturday was a lot more exciting. I hit up the gym for Power + Kick classes. I have decided that mirrors in group exercise classes are not necessary and a pet peeve of mine.Group_ex_room[Source]

I don’t really see the point in them being all over. This could be nitpicky, but I realized it was a pet peeve of mine. Maybe I am being over dramatic, but I was in a spot right in front of a mirror for class on Saturday and it drove me crazy having to watch myself workout the entire time. It also gave me a lot of time to go from “I feel strong doing these squats” thinking to “Oh look at myself. My thighs/butt/hips jiggle so much while I’m jumping in Kick” thoughts. NOT COOL! I know I have the power to control my thoughts and fight the negative talk. The point is however that staring at myself for 2 hours distracted me from simply being able to feel strong and enjoy a quality workout. I know the argument for mirrors is that they can help people check their form…but in most exercises, if you are looking in a mirror you lose proper form by moving your neck out of alignment or you are being distracted by yourself or others you can see in them. Is it overthinking things to consider this can put too much of an emphasis on image? Maybe it would be okay if all mirrors looked like this:

P1140064 That is the best Operation Beautiful message I have ever seen. That was on our church bathroom mirror this morning. I have never seen it up before. I wondered if it was an Operation Beautiful message but I didn’t see any note about the website. No matter. I thought it was really uplifting to see and maybe I will send it in to Caitlin as a note I found. 🙂

Now that I have rambled unnecessarily for too long, I will get back to the remainder of our Saturday. We decided to get together with some friends of ours. We went to the park to play with Makenzie.

Obviously I had fun making weird faces, going down slides, and pushing swings for insane lengths of time. All whilst drooling over our friend Dan’s camera. Hey, Peter. If you read this…that would be a great Mother’s Day present. Wishful thinking never hurts. Don’t dash my dreams before they’ve even started.

The fun began after the park. My buddy Nicole knows how to make a mean margarita. So I was not surprised when I downed three of these beauties over the course of the night.

I think the chips and tacos helped soak up some of the tequila. PS – Chips need salsa. Some people (raises hand) just don’t like Queso.

Not too much though. A little buzz never hurt anyone. Although I don’t think my 3 (ahem, strong) margaritas compared to baby M’s buzz. She was buzzing on sugar and presents. Dan & Nicole gave Makenzie a little backpack, a little purse, and a necklace just for fun. Then they topped it off with a cupcake. Clearly she was in heaven. And their love for M makes me forgive the lack of salsa. Kidding. Or maybe not. I take salsa seriously.

Salsa is definitely a necessary component of just about every meal. I have three types in my fridge as I type this right now. I might have a slight obsession 😉

I love the picture of you and M on the slide – so full of life and fun 🙂

I love the message on the mirror! That should be on every mirror!! 🙂 Love it!!!

Sounds like yall have been having a wonderful weekend. I too take salsa very seriously. And margaritas too!! 😉

  3. What?? No salsa?? I love queso, but you have to have salsa with the queso! 😉

yeah mirros are kind of annoying sometimes. its like even if you dont WANT to look, there they are!

Sounds like a REALLY fun day!

I love salsa too! But I’m a wimp and like it nice and mild :> I’m torn on the mirrors issue. Sometimes I like seeing myself doing moves and feeling strong and other times, like during one of my “livingroom workouts” I forget about all that and just have fun!

  6. I’ve got to disagree on the mirror issue. I NEED mirrors around to check my form (I know, you said we’d be thinking that).

Plus, I LIKE looking at myself in the mirror when I’m exercising. Once I start to warm up, my muscles “pop” a bit, and I feel so strong when I look at them!

I would have been so sad without the salsa! Although, I have been known to eat tortilla chips plain, if they’re good chips 🙂

I LOVE that bathroom message – amazing. Love the photos of you and your girl, they are so natural and beautiful. Thanks for sharing!

  9. What an amazing message on the mirror! It is so easy to get up in the morning and be filled with negative thoughts about myself. To wake up and have the first thought in my head be that I am a daughter of the King, beautifully and wonderfully made, would certainly get my day off to a better and more positive start. I am going to work on that, maybe hang it up on my mirror too : )

I have a love-hate relationship with mirrors. As an instructor they help me to check the whole class and I check my posture constantly making sure I am not showing them something incorrectly. But as a participant, they can sometimes be very much ‘in my face’.
That church note is truly uplifting!

Makenzie is just so darn cute!!! I love all the pictures you post of her and you guys together.

As much as I really don’t enjoy looking at my reflection (sad as that is) I think mirrors really do come in handy as far as checking form goes. It helps a lot when I’m training my clients to get them to see exactly where their arms, legs, etc should be.

  12. Mmmm margaritas are perfect for a hot day! And I love that mirror…sending yourself little inspiring messages every day is so important! I’m sure Caitlin will love it 🙂

  13. Awww Mac is so adorable!
Yes, salsa is needed. I like queso but I don’t want to eat TONS of it you know? A little goes a long way. But with salsa.. well I can go to town on some good salsa.

  14. Great pics! Looks like a wonderful day in the park!!

I see your point – I can see needing mirrors in a dance class to make sure what you’re doing looks like what the teacher is doing but for straight up fitness it doesn’t always seem necessary and I could see how I would get distracted, too!

what a cute post girl! I love your pictures! kick-class sounds like fun! those tacos look super delicious 🙂

It makes me sad when times goes by too quickly. But I agree, it’s because life is filled with so many blessings!

And the picture of M on the swing is awesome. Love the angle and it’s so cute. 🙂

  17. OH my goodness, I’m in love with the picture of M eating the cupcake!! Haha. That could totally be a Pillsbury ad 😉

And that Operation Beautiful message on the mirror at church is SO perfect! You’re right! Have I told you about the book we did a study on recently in my sunday school class? It’s called the Search for Significance! I think you’d really enjoy it!

  18. I LOVE that mirror! I need to write that message on my bathroom mirror. I have a feeling it would really cheer me up every morning. 🙂

I know what you mean about mirrors at the gym. I have a love/hate relationship with them. I do love them in yoga to check my form, but sometimes I wonder if I spend TOO much time looking at myself. I used to take yoga in a room with no mirrors, and it was very freeing! The instructor would come around and help us with our form, and that was good enough for me.
