Flashback Friday – Interlaken

Raise your hand if you’re happy it’s Friday. I have both hands up. Although, I must admit Friday is my 3rd favorite day. Saturday is my favorite because it’s the main day of the weekend. Sunday is my 2nd because of church. But Friday is still something to get excited about. What is your favorite day of the week?

Something else to get excited about? Entering my giveaway for Amazing Grass. You have until my 2nd favorite day to get those entries in, so get to it! And check the end of this post for more great giveaways you can check out.

Oh, and one more thing. I thank you for all of your supportive comments on my recent Intuitive Eating post. πŸ™‚ Some of you mentioned writing a book on it. Lucky for you, there already is an amazing book on it, where I get the principles and some of the other information I share. This is just my personal take on Intuitive Eating, why I think it is important, and things that have worked for me. Each of the principles and tips like “the 3 mindsets to adopt to battle the food police” are credited to the authors Resch & Tribole, like I mention in my posts. But thanks for thinking I could write a book! How awesome is that?! πŸ˜€

So, Friday’s are my newly scheduled yoga days. I am still loving yoga since it helps me to feel strong and also at peace. Kind of like how my next stop on my Flashback Friday trip through Europe left me feeling. πŸ˜‰ After traveling to London and Paris, we hit up the Swiss Alps in a little town called Interlaken.

Upon arriving in Switzerland, we had to take about a 30 minute walk to the hostel. Not the easiest feat with a 40 lb pack on your back. But when we arrived here…

Our Hostel

…we realized it was all worth it. I mean how can you beat having a view like those mountains from a $15/night room? Even if the room comes with some whiny girls donning matching Burberry headbands and complaining about the lack of things to do. Β Don’t ask me what they were doing in the Swiss Alps. Hiking was obviously not on their agenda.

Hiking was definitely on our agenda, but we decided to wait on it to have a couple full days to explore. It was already afternoon when we arrived, so we headed into town to find some dinner and do some shopping. I just loved the little houses and all the lush greenery.

You can bet that one thing on our shopping list was some real Swiss Chocolate. It did not disappoint. And now I am sad to not have any pictures of it. Why couldn’t my blogging days have started sooner? The smooth, creamy, rich, dark goodness deserved to be captured in photos. Thank you Newman’s Own for giving me dark chocolate to satisfy the chocolate craving this post is giving me.

Various Chocolates

Although this was before my blogging days, I was still one to appreciate high quality fresh food. There was a ginormous co-op there that was open to the public. We took full advantage and stocked up on fruits, cheeses, yogurts, breads, gourmet salads, and some all natural granola bars. I was in foodie heaven. Apparently I am more foodie than I originally thought. I spent an entire PAGE of my journal talking about this store.

The next couple of days revolved around hikes. We always started early to get in as much time as we could. Only problem with that is it would quickly warm up so we would wear shorts, and my jacket was a little big. Left some things open to the imagination of those Swiss men.

There were so many trails to explore. And we found our way to many beautiful sights. Here are just a couple pictures from a river we stopped by for some lunch.

Now, this part of the trip hands down had the most beautiful sights. Except for one. After getting back to the hostel from our last hike, I went to the restroom to discover a little visitor. A tick. Where? None other than UNDER MY PANTIES! It apparently decided to hop on during a previous potty break in the mountains. A girl’s gotta pee, ya know! Β So take note: guard your girly bits when squatting in the wilderness. Or buy one of these.

Who knows how long it was there? But it was burrowed in and not coming up. I was thanking my lucky stars that my friend & I were roommates and have seen it all before, so there was no embarrassment asking for her help. We just laughed about it. Until we couldn’t get it out and discovered the best way to remove that sucker was to burn. it. out. Yea. We had to bum a cigarette off the clerk and hold the tip up to my hooha to smoke that little bugger. In the end, we dominated it, but to this day that was the longest couple of minutes of my life. Crotches should not be on fire in that way, ever. Nevertheless, I can assure you I will never forget my hike through the Swiss Alps. They do say pain and beauty go hand in hand. πŸ˜‰

  1. UMmmm I totally would have panicked if I had a tick THERE! LOL!

I am a chocolate snob. I love also sorts, but my most recent favorite is Vosges chocolate bacon bar. Yeah.

  2. Mellissa says:

I almost spit out my water reading about that tick!

We have had some interesting trip happenings, including getting put on two different flights, having a stranger want to become our friend and following us for a the entire day in Paris, and those are just a few of the many.

  3. Julie says:

oh boy, the shewee is excellent for female triathletes as well!!

So here’s something I just learned about ticks, since my dog just got her first 3 up on the mountain a few weeks ago. Much better than fire – and I’ll especially try this if I ever find one on my hooha (yikes!). You were brave to face the heat!

Ok, you just spin the suckers. Take your finger and rub their little butts around and around and around for about a minute. When you finally lift your finger up, they pull their head right out as if to say, “what the heck was that?” and you just pick them up and kill them and be done. It totally worked! Who knew?

  4. lisaou11 says:

ohhhh no I would have flipped out! AH! Glad your friends helped you out haha! it looks truly beautiful!!

  5. lisaou11 says:

the trip I mean, not the tick in your underpants. oh dear, this is awkward now haha!

  6. Glad to hear your still loving yoga. It’s great to find a new workout to enjoy. The craziest thing that happened, well it was just one of those getaways where all sorts of things go wrong. Not only did the tire pop on a Sunday in a tiny town with no service station, the dogs got seed ticks on a hike and I had to spend an hour standing in a stall shower trying to bathe them with tick killer. Cold and not fun. We can totally laugh now of course. Oh, and one of the dogs peed on the bed and we had to sleep on the couch and a recliner…. Good times..

  7. Danielle says:

omg I would have freaked if I found a tick there lol.

I’ve been to Interlaken!! It was gorgeous πŸ˜€

  8. Krystal says:

Looks like an awesome trip! Ticks on the hoo hah, I can totally relate. I’ve had ticks in bad spots on camping trips and had to remove one from hubby’s manly region once. Ugh. I thought the poor man was going to pass out. We have dealt with it so much we end each hike doing a naked spin in front of each other for tick checks. Hmmm… maybe that’s why I conceived Logan on a backpacking trip! lol

    • Tina says:

Peter always asks us to do that too. Even if we go on a walk around the neighborhood he says he needs to check for ticks. Horny toad!!!! And definitely makes sense that Logan appeared after a tick checking session. πŸ˜‰

  9. rc1001 says:

This wasn’t super crazy, but we missed our taxi to the airport when we were coming back from Italy and ended up having an Astin Martin speed us through the streets of Rome to the airport. I felt very fancy.

As for best chocolate, it is in my future and not my past!

  10. Looks like such a beautiful place!

  11. OH my gosh! I’ve never had a tick on me….I cannot imagine one *there*! Whew. Good to know for the next time I have to squat in the woods. πŸ™‚

It looks absolutely breathtaking in Switzerland. I want to go there SO badly!

Hmm….last year when I went to St. Louis, my car got broken into, I lost my camera that night, and we had to ride back to Indy (4 hours) with plastic over our window (oh so quiet LOL). Not too crazy, but unpleasant nonetheless!

I know it sounds silly but…I love good old Hershey’s chocolate. πŸ™‚

  12. Vee says:

What an ending that was! I love those flashbacks and I could not stop reading until I found out how you got rid of that tick! Phew, that must have been quite a drama, I think I would have freaked out quite a bit (given where it was!) πŸ™‚
I love Swiss chocolate. Whenever we go skiing, I buy quite a few bars for better tomorrows. πŸ™‚

    • Tina says:

I’m jealous you are able to get to Swiss chocolate more often. Well, I’m sure I could buy it somewhere her, but it’s not the same!

  13. Therese says:

Bahahaha I have seen that “Sheewee” before! Totally ridiculous!

I am so jealous that looks like it was an amazing trip.

You know about the shenanegans that went on at my last trip πŸ™‚ Well not all of them!

  14. Kelly says:

My favorite day of the week is Monday! Love Mondays but Sundays run a close second! I loved all the pictures…that trip looked awesome!

  15. homecookedem says:

What gorgeous pictures from your trip!! You telling that tick story had me crackin up!! πŸ˜‰

Best chocolate I’ve ever had… hmmm… I love going to little chocolate shops like the one in Helen or the one in Dahlonega and getting their fudge. Sooooooo good!!

P.S. See you in less than 2 days!! πŸ™‚

  16. janetha says:
